As customers who want easier cleaning, we sometimes get confused as a host of top brands pouring designs upon designs of vacuum cleaners into the market annually.
However, the good news is we can learn a lot about our desired products online today, not from manufacturer’s fancy ads, but real users’ feedbacks, and what’s their thoughts about the stuff.
Today we will be looking at Shark and Dyson, two of the most powerful vacuum cleaners ever. I am about to compare them in order for you to see the quality in them and then choose the one that best suits the function you seek.
Shark Apex and Dyson V8 - Show Down
Before I present my comparison results, let me quickly give you a very succinct hint of how to pick the right vacuum cleaner. You see, in determining the best vacuum for the type of cleaning you do, you need to consider the type of material you want to use it on.
Do you have rugs, like lots of rugs across your home? then the upright vacuum cleaner with bags is the best choice you can ever make.
Canisters are the real deal when it comes with having to maneuver lots of stairs around your home. If you only have very light tasks to take, then you can opt for some handheld and stick vacuum cleaner models. All in all, your tasks will decide the kind of vacuum cleaner you should buy.
Shark Apex Highlights
Shark Apex is a great upright vacuum cleaner that offers great value for every dollar the product costs.
Do they come in sub-models that are interesting both in design and functions and are they cheap? Well, you are about to find out.
With its super Shark Duoclean technology, it makes large particle easy to flush out from wherever they are hiding and also helps your hard floor to achieve a polished look.
With just a push of a button, you can detach the pod attached to the upright vacuum cleaner to allow access to clean under your furniture and other hard-to-reach areas.
What particularly interests me is the multi-visual LED light that allows for you to clean up dark areas of the room where natural lights cannot reach; also, the Zero-M feature allow for easy removal of hairs, both human and pet, from the brush roll.
Is there more to these features? Of course but first, let me give you the first look into the functions and build of the Dyson V8.
Dyson V8 Highlights
Dyson V8 is a cordless upright vacuum cleaner that has been leading the vacuum cleaner market for quite a while now. This is all thanks to its unique features and very apt versatility.
It has very light weight and you can easily turn it into a handheld cleaner that allows you to clean almost everywhere in your home, office and even your car.
One very unique feature I find very interesting about this vacuum cleaner is the fact that it allows for a very hygienic system of waste disposal which almost completely hands-free.
It works on every floor to give the floor exactly the finish it needs. You just can’t help but feel dauntless in your home after cleaning with Dyson V8.
It was hard trying to compare these two products but in order to show you the exact product that appears to have an edge over the other, this comparison must be done.

- Maneuverability
When it comes to maneuverability, Shark Apex seems to have all that it takes. They have taken keen care to include in their functionality a swivel steering that reduces the stress of turning around in order to a perfectly clean room.
The good thing about this swivel steering is that it works both in normal mode and lift away mode which allows for easy movement all around the room. If I were to rate this feature alone, I would probably rate it at over eighty percent as it is almost the central feature of the entire brand in itself.
The DuoClean technology which features two brushes enables the vacuum cleaner to pick up the slightest dust and even bigger particles. This DuoClean technology is designed in such a way to enable larger particles to fit straight between it, unlike older generation vacuum cleaners.
Dyson V8 comes with a very unique, cordless feature, which makes it ideal and very unrestrictive. This means you do not have to limit yourself within the reach of the cord attached.
You can go anywhere to get your cleaning job done without plugging and unplugging some not so attractive cord.
This ensures easy and very stress-free movement. The only restriction you might face using this vacuum is the amount of bending you may have to use as it doesn’t come with a swivel that ensures effortless rotation which allows you access to under your sofas and other hideous spaces.
- Work Duration
The working duration for a Shark Apex is why most people have given it a five-star review across most platforms where it is up for sale.
As you can see, Shark Apex is powered by mains so it works unless in case of power failure.
With the price which the Dyson V8 is being sold, I actually expected more when it comes to working duration but I was disappointed to observe that even after charging the battery overnight, the luxuriously designed vacuum cleaner cannot do more than forty-minutes of cleaning.
This is a big minus for this particular brand. More annoying is the fact that even the forty minutes is only a runtime for a non-powered tool such as when you are doing some mild dusting with the attached dusting brush or a crevice tool.
When you intend to carry on any cleaning activity that requires a fully motorized power, you might not have more than twenty-five minutes of runtime.
- Versatility
I keep saying when you have a Shark Apex, you have it all. This is because, with Shark Apex, there is hardly anything that you can’t clean.
From hard floors made from polished woods and marbles, soft cushions and couches to softer floors made up of carpet and rugs, Shark Apex had got you covered.
With the LED light features, you will also get to clean those areas that seem to hideous for other vacuum cleaners to reach.
No matter of human hair or shed dog hairs that lies across the room rests assured that ZeroM technology is specifically designed to get rid of all hair strands no matter how long or insignificant.
Unlike the older generation vacuum cleaners, be rest assured that the spacious bin of the Shark Apex is designed to have an anti-allergen complete seal which helps to seal within the filter all accumulated particles that you could ever react to.
You get a wholesome package when you get to buy a Shark Apex. A wholesome package that comes with a crevice tool, anti-allergen dust brush, pet multi-tool, duster crevice, multiflex under, appliance wand, and a nice accessory bag.
I like the fact that the Dyson V8 is compact in size, very lightweight and sleek. Hence you can operate it with ease unlike other heavy vacuum cleaners.
The vacuum cleaner works on any kind of floor and other pieces of furniture too. It is quiet in operation and very effective in functionality. Its softer brushes pick up large particles and fine dust in just a roll, which is very impressive.
Dyson V8 also operates an impressive air filtration system and an active HEPA system which is ideal for people with allergies as the system allows all dust particles and allergens to stay trapped during the process of cleaning, without releasing them to the air of your home.
- Maintenance
Who doesn’t want all the specifications above? However, there is a need to understand that no matter how excellent the features of a Shark Apex may seem to be, there is a need to adequately maintain it.
Although, the product has a comprehensive seven years warranty, little maintenance tips would keep you off constant correspondence with customer service.
Since parts that are subject to constant use such as brushes and filters are not covered by warranty, it is essential that you take out the filter to clean constantly and ensure you keep the brushes away from too humid environment so as to not render it loose.
Since it is cordless and has a removable wand from the motor, the storage then becomes a problem as the wand must be kept unbroken and the motor must be kept away from moist.
Generally, there is a warranty of about five years which only covers other areas aside those that are used frequently such as the brushes.
The tools are easily replaceable in case of damage from the brand’s official stores or from most online stores since Dyson is a popular brand. You wouldn’t have to break the bank when getting the spares. They come really cheap.
The Big Verdict
While I would have simply said the fact in the comparison table should speak for each product, it all must come down to which best appeals to each individual.
In functionality, work duration, maneuverability, and price, it all seems that the Shark Apex beats Dyson V8 in all the highlighted aspect.
The central design of the Shark Apex makes it considerably perfect enough to reach even the most difficult and darkest of places around the room. However, all of these attributes of Shark Apex come at a bit high price and it is heavier.
The Dyson V8, on the other hand, comes with a very impeccable weight that enables it to be easy to carry around the room without restriction since it is cordless.
The question whether this feature can easily be sacrificed for work duration is what I am not certain of as Dyson V8 sucks really poorly in work duration and it’s very expensive.
When looking at the general design of the Dyson V8 and its twenty-first-century sleekness, you might be willing to ignore all its shortcomings but certainly, my verdict will uphold the still unbeatable Shark Apex!
